Lathe supplier Star GB will hold an annual open day at its technology center in Derby from 22 to 24 November 2022.
The educational event will showcase the latest technologies from Star and its technology partners, including a machining demonstration from its product portfolio, as well as the UK premiere of the new SD lathe range, which made its world premiere at IMTS in Chicago. .
The SD-26 Type S is a new 26mm capable model developed by Star to provide engineers with turn-mill solutions for complex components.
The Model S variant shown at the event offers Star’s patented dual B-axis programmable heads, with the B1 having 4 front and 4 rear tools and the B2 offering interchangeable cartridge stations. The station accepts double milling spindles, total 6 spindles for angle pieces, or double threaded cyclone head for making complex bone screws, or double sleeve holder for high-speed electronic spindles for complex 3D 5-axis contour milling.
The new model is highly customizable with multiple cartridge positions to accommodate different fixtures for complex workpieces. The ergonomic design includes a rear tool holder at the back of the cutting chamber for quick tool changes and more room for automated part retrieval.
Also on display will be a selection of Star’s most popular bar cutting machines up to 42mm in diameter, including the SL-10, SX-38 Type B, SR-32JIII Type B, ST-38 and SR-20RIV Type B. The latter will be a showcase Star’s flagship development in chip control is the Step Cycle Pro.
The Step Cycle Pro (SCP) is the company’s latest breakthrough for fine chip removal applications in difficult-to-machine materials such as aluminium, inconel, stainless steel, copper and plastic.
The system provides effective “air cutting” chip breaking by synchronizing the oscillating axis with the rotation cycle of the main shaft and can be used on both main and auxiliary spindles. This oscillating cutting method improves productivity by eliminating machine downtime associated with chip winding and increases tool life by reducing tool tip temperatures during operation.
Step Cycle Pro provides a dedicated interface for FANUC CNC systems, allowing engineers to easily select ideal program conditions and chip lengths from a recommendation database. When enabled, it automatically adjusts the actual feed rate to ensure cycle time is not compromised and maximum productivity is achieved.
The popular NC Assist programming software will also be on display with Star engineers, showing how to quickly and efficiently create NC programs using a simple, interactive interface.
Star GB’s application, service and sales experts will be available to share their technical expertise, advising existing and potential users on how to get the most out of the technologies offered. Visitors can discuss future investment plans, technical drawings, and various planning and financing options to make upgrading their equipment more affordable.
The event is an open invitation to all types of visitors as the Star GB Technology Center is located in Derby, next to the Rolls-Royce plant in Rainsway. Easily accessible from the A52 and M1 motorways, with private parking.
From Tuesday, November 22 to Thursday, November 24, the event will begin at 9:00 am and end at 5:00 pm each day with snacks and lunch for all participants.
